Biography
Nigel earned his Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering with First-Class Honours from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in July 2016. During his undergraduate studies, he specialized in Industrial Materials and developed proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (SolidWorks). As part of his undergraduate studies, he completed an overseas internship in Japan in May 2015, gaining hands-on industry experience while applying his academic knowledge. For his Final Year Project (FYP), he focused on the development of thermochromic energy-efficient smart windows. In August 2016, Nigel joined Assoc. Prof. Terry Steele’s laboratory to pursue a Ph.D. specializing in biomaterials, catechol adhesives, and voltage-activated adhesives. During his candidature, he published eight papers, participated at three international conferences: One in South Carolina, One in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and One in Singapore. He has also contributed to a patent developed in Steele’s laboratory. Following the completion of his Ph.D., he joined Micron as a Senior Engineer for four years, before transitioning into academia as a Lecturer at Republic Polytechnic, specializing in Engineering Design with Business.
